Homeowners concerned about rising utility costs are always looking for the most economical solution to heat and cool the interior of their homes. Traditional heating and cooling systems require you to use them less often or adjust the thermostat to a temperature below or above your preference to save money on your energy bill. A HYBRID HEAT® dual fuel heating system is designed to maximize comfort and energy efficiency. As a factory-authorized Bryant dealer, D&G Heating & Cooling in Livonia, Michigan, can help you choose an intuitive, energy-efficient HYBRID HEAT® dual fuel system that’s right for your home.
HYBRID HEAT® dual fuel systems combine an electric heat pump with a gas furnace and switch between the two fuel sources to maximize comfort and efficiency. This home comfort system automatically selects the most economical fuel source, no matter the outdoor temperature. You’ll stay toasty warm in the winter and pleasantly cool in the summer while saving money on your utility bill year-round.
The heat pump takes the place of a central air conditioner. During mild fall weather, the heat pump also provides an energy-efficient heat source. As the temperature drops in the winter months, the intuitive system automatically switches over to the gas furnace as soon as it becomes the more efficient way to heat your home. The system consistently delivers smooth transitions between the two fuel sources to ensure you’re getting the most economical heating and cooling option.
During cooler months in the spring and fall, a heat pump efficiently handles the heating duties by pulling warm air from outside into the cool interior of your home. Even when it’s cold outside, there’s still heat in the outside air that can be pumped into your home. A heat pump can continue pulling heat from outside air as long as the temperature remains above about 35 degrees. Transferring heat is easier than creating heat, so firing up the furnace costs more to run when the heat pump can do the job. You only want your furnace to kick on for the coldest months when the outside temperature is too low for a heat pump to operate efficiently.
As the weather begins warming up in the summer, the heat pump reverses the process and essentially works like an air conditioner would. A heat pump doesn’t generate heat; it simply transfers it from one place to another. Warm air from inside your home is blown across the indoor coil of the unit, where heat energy is absorbed by the liquid refrigerant. The resulting cool air is blown throughout your home’s ducts while the warm air evaporates into a gas that moves through the system into the exterior unit, where it’s pumped outdoors.
